On Location in Israel: What's New TodayFriday, August 13More images!! We're on our way to Tel Aviv. Thursday, August 12
Hey, We also had fun chatting and sending live photos: see them in the new gallery! Wednesday, August 11Hey! So today we did tons of stuff..it has been such a long day. We got up at 7am and after a huge breakfeast at the Hotel (Israeli Meals are neat...look for pictures soon) We were off to check out the Dolphins at Dolphin reef. Dolphin Reef is an area that is open to the ocean so the dolphins can come and go as they wish. This is great because they can roam around the Red Sea all they wish...however, this can also be a disadvantage as some of the animals showed many scars from Boaters. After Dolphin reef we had some lunch..emailed some photos to you. Then went began to set up for the eclipse. The eclipse was not that big of a deal for southern Israel, it seems as though north and west of us was in darkness but in Eliat it was not. We dove in and out for 4 hours and saw no real changes. However we still took some great photos you should get tomarrow. The red sea reefs are absolutly amazing. Israel has such a small streach of coastline (about 4 miles). Yet despite the huge tourism industry here the reefs are in great shape. There are buoys that line the coast that mark the shallow reefs so that boats cannot run aground and destroy them. There is some boat traffic in Eilat but mostly from small glass bottom boats that take tourists out to see the reefs. Eilat is also an important commercial port for Israel but the tankers stay far away from the reefs. Over all Eilat is quite the boppin town but underwater is a peaceful paradise. Tuesday, August 10Today we tested out internet connections: Jake, Judd, and Elizabeth can go to an Internet cafe, log on to the Gulf of Maine Aquarium web site, and chat with us online! Jake is sending us captions for the images in the photo gallery: check them out as we add more information. Tomorrow: Watch here for photos during the eclipse! Jake, Judd, and Elizabeth are almost in the 100% path, and
will attempt to take some underwater still images and some above water digital video during the eclipse. They will email it to us
here in Maine immediately: you'll see it a few minutes after we do, around 9 or 10 am, Wednesday.
