Photo Gallery

Here you'll find a collection of images that don't necessarily fit in elsewhere in the site, but we think are too interesting not to show you. Below are thumbnail views with a brief description. To see the full size version of a particular image, click next to each image, and you'll get the original image alone on a page. The approximate file size is provided to give you an idea of how long it may take to load each image. Enjoy!

barrel sponge thumbnail Full size 40K

This is a Barrel Sponge- they get amazingly huge. They also provide a great habitat for fishes to hide from predators. The juvenile blue headed wrasse you see in the picture used it for just that!

Belize Lab thumnail Full size 24K

This is the research lab where we do most of our "dry" work. On the rare occasion that we ever get dry!

Harlequin Bass(q) thumbnail.gif Full size 27K

This is a Harlequin Bass. This picture was acually taken at night in the lagoon at Glovers Atoll. It shows how fish use the reef as habitat.

cat thumbnail Full size 29K

Ok so this isn't a coral reef fish, but isn't it cool? It was taken at the Belize zoo. The Belize zoo is a great place that puts a ton of focus on "real life" exhibits. They also do a ton to promote local conservation of animals in Belize.

Four Eye butterfly thumbnail Full size 26K

This is a foureye butterflyfish. They get their name from the black spot located at the back. This enables them to confuse predators who might mistake their back end for the front. This picture was taken last year about 10 feet off the dock in the turtle grass at Glovers Atoll.

three spot yellow thumbnail Full size 24K

This is a threespot damselfish. It's actually a juvenile. They look much different as adults. Stand by for an adult picture as soon as I get in the water!
