From George Huffman:
The weather was great and terrible today. When I went to Harbor Control at 6 a.m. there was lightning in all directions, probably a flash every minute or two. [From a meteorologist's perspective, that's great.]

From Alan Nelson:
I learned how to put together a radio sonde today. Didn't leave any time for pictures so I set up the camera for a time-lapse of the sunset.

08-25-99

From George Huffman:
Writing about the pools in the reef yesterday reminded me to write about the Battle of Kwajalein in World War II. There are five interpretive signs around the island, a couple of commemorative markers, and some other sites that are just numbered.

From Alan Nelson:
The TV crew went out to two different islands on two different helicopters today to check off the very last items on the "shoot list"...

08-24-99

From George Huffman:
This afternoon I had a chance to sit for a while and watch the waves roll in from the ocean. It was close to high tide, so the waves were breaking out at the edge of the reef that surrounds Kwaj on the ocean side,

From Alan Nelson:
Tomorrow the TV crew leaves and so it was a day of catching a few shots that hadn't been covered yet. They taped the daily planning meeting early

08-23-99

From George Huffman:
I never expected to end up discussing snow research in Kwaj, but I did today! The Ronald H. Brown had an open house this afternoon, and I made time to go.

From Alan Nelson:
It occurred to me that I haven't shown you any pictures of the TV crew at work. Here is Rich Melnick at the camera, Erica Drezek asking the questions...

08-22-99

From George Huffman:
Unfortunately for us, the forecast for today was accurate. We had the great TRMM satellite overpass with no appreciable radar echoes at all.

From Alan Nelson:
All we needed was clouds....but we only got little ones. There was hardly even a little one in the sky when the satellite went overhead at 8:44 AM today.

08-21-99

From George Huffman:
This morning dawned as placid as yesterday was exciting. Thanks to the satellite telephone snafu and the hard down day for the aircraft...

From Alan Nelson:
Today was a down day for the aircraft. Several repairs were needed and there aren't very many clouds around. The aircraft are all gearing up for tomorrow...

08-20-99

From George Huffman:
Tonight the KWAJEXers had a rare chance to be at the receiving end of an ICBM test. I should hasten to add that we felt pretty safe....

From Alan Nelson:
Thanks to this "Huey" helicopter and its fantastic crew, we were able to see and videotape some beautiful aspects of Kwajalein Atoll today.
